Xactum Injections (Cefoperazone & Sulbactam) by Life Pharmaceutical Company
Drug Category: Antibiotic (Cephalosporin)
Indication: For the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.
Composition:
Each vial contains:
- Cefoperazone…………500mg/1gm
- Sulbactam……………..500mg/1gm
Pharmacological Action:
- Cefoperazone: Cefoperazone is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefoperazone exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting the bacterial cell wall synthesis. Like all beta-lactam antibiotics, cefoperazone binds to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located inside the bacterial cell wall, causing the inhibition of the third and last stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cell lysis is then mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes such as autolysins.
- Sulbactum: Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. This molecule is given in combination with beta-lactam antibiotics to inhibit beta-lactamase, an enzyme produced by bacteria that destroys the antibiotics. Sulbactam is an irreversible inhibitor of beta-lactamase, it binds the enzyme and does not allow it to interact with the antibiotic.
